PLEASE READ THIS!
The function of an alternator is to MAINTAIN the battery, not charge a dead or weak battery.
A defective or discharged battery will damage your new alternator and VOID YOUR WARRANTY!
PLEASE TEST AND CHARGE YOUR BATTERY BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR NEW ALTERNATOR!
1. Test and charge battery if required.
2. Check fuses and fusible links - replace as required.
3. Check battery terminals for corrosion or poor connection. Clean and tighten as necessary.
4. Disconnect battery prior to alternator installation.
5. Check belt condition and replace if glazed or cracked.
6. Tighten belt to have about 1/2" of deflection. Re-check after 15 mins of run time.
Notes: 1-wire alternators do not use a power wire to "start the field". They are "self-exciting" and engine revolutions will generally "start the field" around 1,500RPM. If you notice a no charge situation at idle (before vehicle has been driven or revved above 1,500 RPM), just give the throttle a nudge to start the field.
